ASHÉ'S FEBRUARY 2011 EVENTS

KUUMBA INSTITUTE’S SATURDAY PROGRAM
8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Ashé Cultural Arts Center, 1724 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.

Kuumba Institute’s Saturday Program for children ages 6 to 16 is in full swing! The institute is directed by Kesha McKey, with instructors that include professional dancers, actors, singers, poets, drummers, and other artisans. The program features drama, dance, spoken word, photography, African drumming, martial arts, visual arts, film, fitness, stepping, beading, and more.

Tuition is only $30 per month for one child, and the fee for a family of up to three children is $60. Space is limited, so register now. If you’re interested in giving your child a meaningful arts & culture experience, call (504) 569-9070 for an application.

SISTAH'S MAKING A CHANGE --FEBRUARY SCHEDULE
Mondays and Thursdays

Mondays: 6:00 p.m. Dance Classes with Giselle Nakhid; 7:00 p.m. Health & Wellness Seminar
Thursdays: 6:00 Dance Classes with Giselle Nakhid; Haitian Dance with Kwame Ross

Get fit with the “sistahs” as you exercise and dance your way to wellness. Classes are taught by professional dancer and choreographer Giselle Nakhid and other guest dancers. The program is directed by Jamilah Muhammad, a registered nurse and professional dancer, who handles all other aspects of programming, such as educational films, nutrition, and health and wellness. A nutritious meal is served after each class. Admission is free and open to the public. No dance experience required. For more information, call (504) 569-9070, or just show up ready to move.

Alexander Kronemer’s 90-minute documentary is a true story. It is the story of Abdul Rahman Ibrahima Sori who was sold into slavery in the American south in 1788.
