JUNEBUG PRODUCTIONS - From Community to Stage Theater Courses

JUNEBUG PRODUCTIONS is pleased to announce the first in a series of the Free Southern
Theater Institute’s community-based theater courses FROM COMMUNITY TO STAGE
beginning Tuesday January 15th at Ashé.

This 12-week course ends with a public performance at the Contemporary Arts Center on
April 3rd. Class meets Tues. 6-8:30pm at the Ashé Cultural Arts Center (1712 Oretha Castle
Haley Blvd.) and Thurs. 6-8:30pm at the Contemporary Arts Center (900 Camp St.). Class
will break for Mardi Gras and spring break (March 18th, 20th). Rehearsals on Mon. March 31st,
Tues. April 1st, and Wed. April 2nd are mandatory.

The course will be facilitated by John O’Neal (Artistic Dir. of Junebug), Kiyoko McCrae and

Stephanie McKee. Students will learn:

· The Story Circle process
· Basic theories of community based art
· Multidisciplinary performance techniques with guest artists
· Creation of original performance pieces using stories
· Stage performance and production

This course will be examining the effects of hurricane Katrina and the breaking of the levees

and how this has impacted what "home" means.

There is still space available for several students. No prior experience in acting or writing is

required, but artists are welcome to participate. Full scholarships are available for community
members. However, due to the limited number of participants and the importance of participation
for both the creation and the performance of the final production, strict attendance and commitment
to the project is required.

Please call or email to register or to learn more about the course.
The first three classes will be open registration dates.

If your organization would like printed flyers for distribution to be delivered to you, please let me

know.

Thank you for your support!
