Family Book Night

TIME : 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
DATE : Friday, August 18th, 2006
PLACE : Ashe' Cultural Center
(504) 569-9070

Please join us for our Family Book Night, a family-focused reading celebration. You and your child will create your very own ABC book to take home and read together. There will be fun, food and books for you and your child! The whole family is welcome to attend this free event!

Family Book Nights bring families together to share in the joy of reading and learn firsthand about the long-term importance that active, repeated family reading can have in their child’s
personal and cognitive development. During the two-hour event, children and their families
share books and read together. In the process, adult family members learn simple reading
techniques they can employ to help their children:

• Listen to books read aloud;
• Build spoken language by talking and listening;
• Learn about the letters of the alphabet;
• Learn about print and books; and
• Develop a love of books.

Family Book Nights do something more, too: It gives young people and their families the opportunity to extend their reading experience together. During the event, each family is
invited to create their very own personalized book – one that they can keep, together with a
bag of great reading gifts, after the celebration concludes.
